Who We Are

Tsuda College has received the 2008 Special Coordination Funds for Promoting Science and Technology (SCF) from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Technology (MEXT) to establish the Center for Women in Research on campus.

Tsuda College has pioneered women's higher education in science. Many of its math and computer science graduates are now working as researchers in industry and universities.

The Center for Women in Research is promoting the “Supporting Women in Research through Cross-Generational Networking and Integration of Sciences with the Arts and Humanities” initiative, with the aim of improving the work-life balance of women researchers. In addition, the Center aims to build cross-generational networks through the integration of arts and sciences as a way of raising science awareness among young generations to encourage them to become scientists in the future.

The Center provides counseling and mentoring services for pregnant and mother researchers who face challenges in starting a new family and raising children as well as women researchers who take care of elderly parents. To help women researchers in these situations, the Center collaborates with the Faculty of Liberal Arts and graduate schools as well as with campus affiliates, which include the Sakuranbo Day Nursery, the Institute for Research in Language and Culture, the Institute of International and Cultural Studies, the Institute for Mathematics and Computer Science, and the Tsuda College Alumnae Association.
